Red Shoes (Zapatos rojos) is the debut of Mexican filmmaker Carlos Kaiser Eichelmann. Starring Eustacio Ascacio, Natalia Solián, Phanie Molina and Georgina Tábora. The film portrays the troubled parent-child relationship, the search for spiritual redemption and gender violence. All this is narrated through the story of an old peasant who lives in the quiet and monotonous Mexican mountains, who after receiving distressing news must face the contrasting reality of the city, in a vibrant, colorful Mexico City, and at the same time violent time.
Since its premiere, the feature film has been part of the official selection of important festivals, both national and international. Its international premiere took place at the 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival. While its premiere in Mexico was held at the 2022 Morelia International Film Festival. Among some of the festivals where it was presented were the San Diego International Film Festival, the Moroccan International Film Festival, the International Film Festival from Santa Bárbara, the International Festival of India.
The Italian-Mexican production has been nominated and awarded several times. At the 27th Sofia International Film Festival he received the Sofia City Film Award, the Fipresci Jury Prize and the Youth Jury Award. Finally, at the Malaga Festival this year, the photographer Serguei Saldívar Tanaka was awarded in the Best Cinematography category for his work on Red Shoes.
